See the sale price and your savings for any percent-off deal, and add sales tax to know what you will actually pay at the till.
How the discount calculator works
Savings = original price × discount ÷ 100. Sale price = original price − savings. Final price = sale price + sales tax on the sale price.
Example
A $120 jacket at 25% off saves $30 for a sale price of $90. With 8% sales tax, the tax is $7.20 and you pay $97.20.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a discount in my head?
Find 10% by moving the decimal one place, then multiply. For 25% off, take a quarter of the price.
Is tax charged before or after the discount?
In most places tax is charged on the discounted price, but rules vary, so check the receipt.
How do I stack two discounts?
Apply them one after the other, not added together. 20% then 10% off equals 28% off, not 30%.
