Estimate how many calories your body burns at rest (BMR) and how many you need each day for your activity level.
How the calorie & bmr calculator works
BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) − 5 × age + 5 for men, or − 161 for women (Mifflin-St Jeor). Maintenance calories = BMR × an activity factor from 1.2 (sedentary) to 1.9 (athlete).
Example
A 30-year-old man who weighs 70 kg and is 175 cm tall has a BMR of about 1,649 kcal. With moderate activity (×1.55) he needs about 2,556 kcal a day to maintain weight.
Frequently asked questions
What is BMR?
Basal metabolic rate is the energy your body uses at complete rest to keep you alive.
How many calories should I cut to lose weight?
A deficit of about 500 kcal a day is commonly used for roughly 0.5 kg of loss per week. Talk to a doctor or dietitian before large changes.
How accurate is it?
It is an estimate. Individual metabolism varies, so adjust based on real results over several weeks.
